Have you ever thought about serving the Mass as a Lector, a Eucharistic Minister, an Altar Server, a Musician, or a Hospitality Minister? Throughout the summer, there will be brief information sessions after your regular Mass about each of these ministries, so you can find out more from the people who participate in them.

Lectors - July 16-17

Eucharistic Ministers - July 23-24

Altar Servers - July 30-31 (open to people aged 10 and up, including adults)

Musicians - August 6-7 (vocal and instrumental, after Masses with music)

Hospitality Ministers - August 13-14
More formal training sessions will be announced later, but this is an opportunity to express your interest and ask questions of the people already involved in these ministries. We invite you to consider how Jesus might be calling you to serve!
All adults who participate in liturgical ministries at St. Austin Catholic Church must be Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) compliant. This training, provided through the Diocese of Austin, promotes the protection of minors, elderly adults, disabled persons, and other vulnerable populations. Initial EIM training is conducted in person and must be renewed every three years. Renewal courses may be taken in person or online. Help Bring the Word to Life through Worship!

In addition to lending your talent to our Music Ministry, we have other opportunities to support the way we bring the Word to our time and place. Our priests need your help at Mass on Saturday evening and Sundays to serve as Greeters, Lectors, and Eucharistic Ministers (EM). Consider helping:

As a Greeter - we'd never ask anyone to do anything that might feel unsafe or uncomfortable, but welcoming worshippers to Mass can be accomplished without contact and at a safe distance.

As a Lector or EM - if you've previously served and are trained, please let us know that you'd like to help by emailing us at [email protected] or use the new form at the Worship page to let us know that you'd like to go onto the schedule.

In our Music Ministry - rehearsals for our music ministers will begin soon and there are several opportunities to be involved - the St. Austin Parish Choir (11:30 a.m.), our 8:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Ensembles, and/or as an instrumentalist. If you are interested in being part of our music ministry feel free to visit with the cantor after the 5 p.m. Vigil, a member of the choir after the 11:30 a.m. Mass, or Rudy Davenport after the 8:45 a.m. and/or 5:30 p.m. Mass by the piano.

An Opportunity for Families to Get The Spirit Flowing!
As the new liturgical year dawns with the first Sunday of Advent (November 28 and it's Satuday vigil) what a welcome we'll receive as we approach and enter the church for Mass.
We're excited to invite young families to help adorn our sidewalk with Advent chalk art on the sidewalk and serve as greeters to offer Advent stickers to welcome worshipers.

Ordinary? Wrong!There's Much to Celebrate!

The weeks of Ordinary Time contain the rest of Jesus’ earthly ministry and some of the major events of the Gospels we have come to know and love, such as the miracles, the parables, the calling of the twelve, the Sermon on the Mount, the Bread of Life discourse. . . we get all that and more during this season. Like all liturgical seasons, Ordinary Time is meant to be lived! We aren’t passive receptors of the liturgy – or at least we shouldn’t be. We are called to be active participants and participating in Ordinary Time means participating in the everyday life of Jesus, and taking the opportunity to grow in our own faith. There are many ways to make Ordinary Time an extraordinary time - here are some ideas:

Go to a different Mass than what you normally would on a weekend. Do you usually go to the 5 pm Saturday Vigil? Try the 8:45 am Sunday Mass for a change!

Arrive to Mass a few minutes earlier than usual to take the time to greet your fellow parishioners and take a few extra minutes to pray before Mass begins.

Sing (more) at Mass! The musicians all do a wonderful job leading us, but our task from the pews is to fully participate - let's join them, not just listen!

Have a family picnic once a week, or meet with friends once a week for a meal/gathering - fellowship was on Jesus' agenda, too, he didn't just "work".

Get a plant for your home or office to have as a reminder that Ordinary Time is a season for growth. If we don't nurture a plant, it won't grow. If we don't nurture our faith, it won't grow.

Read the Scriptures BEFORE you attend Mass. That way, you can have a better connection with the prayers and songs of the day. Let's enjoy this time of year, and find ways to move closer to Christ, because in Him we live and move and have our being.

An Update - What to expect at MassAs the Bishop's Dispensation Lifts

In the Church
Effective May 22nd, we can no longer guarantee 6' distancing between households. We encourage everyone to be vaccinated as soon as eligible. We can't promise a risk-free environment for those not fully vaccinated, but will continue to offer livestreamed Masses. Seating remains limited. Masks must be worn by all over 2 years of age. Doors open 20 minutes before Mass.
About Reception of the Eucharist - We only offer Communion in the form of bread, placed in your hand. Please ~· Wear your mask over your nose and mouth.
· Cup your hands to give a wide space to receive the host.
· Step 6' to the side of the minister and move your mask to consume the host.
· Replace your mask, fully covering your nose and mouth.
Thank you for helping us do all we can to flatten the curve of infection. Wearing masks and maintaining 6’ distance are how we model the Gospel message of love for one another.

Training for New Liturgical Ministers
As exciting as it is to be able to return to Mass and the joy we feel as many places and opportunities begin to reopen, we've decided it’s best to wait until this fall to offer training to new liturgical ministers. For one, we're in the midst of preparing for a rather large move (with the renovation project!), and also, since liturgical ministries are very much "hands on" it's best for us to play it safe until there is more certainty and clarity on safe practices in these settings. Your patience is appreciated and we encourage you to stay tuned for when we're able to offer this! In the meantime, if you are interested in becoming a minister, NOW is the time to get your EIM training taken care of (or make sure you are current) as it is a requirement to serve at Mass. This is our Mass of maximum efficiency. This Mass is spoken (no music). During this time of COVID-19, this Mass is not being celebrated. Please join us to worship online at 8:45 a.m. or at one of our other Masses.

This is the "family" Mass. Music focuses on contemporary liturgical music and is led by singers and instrumentalists. Most weeks, children who have not received their first communion are invited to attend a separate Children’s Liturgy of the Word. Afterwards stop byHecker Hall for coffee and donuts.

At St. Austin's 8:45am Mass we invite all children from Pre-K to about 3rd grade to their own Liturgy! It is a great time for the children of St. Austin to learn about the Mass, hear the Gospel readings, and create their own prayers on an age appropriate level. During different liturgical times through the year we have processions for the children to participate in too.

This is our traditional Mass, with music led by the St. Austin Parish Choir and organist. The congregation sings traditional and contemporary hymns, and the choir sings anthems from all periods of the church’s heritage.

Perhaps the most diverse of our weekend Masses, the assembly brings together many college students and young adults with parishioners of every stripe. The atmosphere of this service is relaxed and casual. The music is led by an ensemble of singers and instrumentalists who sing a praise and worship song as a meditation after communion.

Since the Time of CoVid 19, the number of participants in the daily virtual celebration of this Mass has grown exponentially. The numbers in the church for public worship are fewer but faithful. On Friday mornings during the school year, the children of St. Austin School worship with us and lift their voices in praise.
