Every Wednesday
7-8:30 pm
Members’ homes in Barton Hills
(south of downtown Austin)
We spend 20 minutes of centering or "listening" prayer, followed by a prayer of petition;
and then lectio divina, which is reading and personal reflection on the scripture readings
for the coming Sunday. Three to 12 adults attend on any given week. Periodically the
community gathers for a service project or weekend retreat.

St. Vincent de Paul Room at St. Austin
They didn’t tell us when we were boys, but it turns out that life is no picnic. Somewhere around age 30 we men start figuring this out. This is a group that gathers to consider what it means to be a man walking in God’s light. It is not an easy path, and each man’s path is different. We often find that as a group we have greater wisdom than we do individually. If this sounds intriguing, come check it out. The conversation starts with some reading material and goes where it will. It always ends with prayer.

Alternate Sundays
Members’ homes
We pray the gospel for the coming Sunday using lectio divina, have a check-in in which
members can talk about what’s going on in their lives, and conclude with prayer. We
support St. Louise House with meals every few months, and have at least three purely
social gatherings during the year.

1st & 3rd Thursdays
Mornings
Weekly in Advent & Lent
We meet on the First and Third Thursday mornings of each month and weekly during the Advent and Lenten seasons. Our community is so named because we are women nurturing and rejoicing in the holy life within each other, as Mary and Elizabeth nutured and rejoiced in the holy lives of Jesus and John the Baptist within them. Our community consists of approximately 16 women, most of whom are in the second half of life. We are single women, widows, wives, mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers, all seeking to share our faith with one another in a loving, prayerful and respectful environment.
Our focus is faith sharing on the Gospel, and we value the continued learning element of SCCs by frequently reading and discussing a book of a spiritual nature. Many of our members are actively involved in ministries related to St. Austin parish, such as St. Louise House, Prayer Blanket, Communion Outreach, Eucharistic, Feeding Homeless Youth and Martha Ministry, as well as ministries outside our parish community such as Results and Hospice Austin.
Some members belong to another Small Christian Community as well as our SCC. Our sharing and mutual support of one another nourish us spiritually as we go out into the larger community to "manifest God's transforming love in the world," as the St. Austin parish mission statement proclaims. We strive to be prayerful and loving companions to each other on this spiritual journey, seeking to discover God's loving and healing presence in its many hopes and joys, sorrows and losses.

We are located in central Austin in the following neighborhoods: Brykerwoods, Tarrytown and Treemont. Our focus is faith sharing on the Gospel for the upcoming Sunday. We are a community of different denominations, Catholic, Episcopal, Presbyterian, Lutheran. Besides discussion on the scriptures, we discuss our different places in life. Some still have children at home or some are away at college. We have two traditions that bring us all together with our families, a Seder Supper in the spring and a Posada at Christmas. We are open to new members.
